John Hollins MBE Summary

John Hollins MBE (born 16/7/1946) is a former footballer who played for Chelsea, QPR and Arsenal. Hollins joined Chelsea aged just 17. He played 592 games, and scored 69 goals in his first spell at the club, and was part of the successful Chelsea sides of the mid-1960s and early 1970s. At one point he made 167 consecutive appearances, a club record. In June 1975 he was signed at QPR for £80,000. He stayed at the Hoops for four seasons, playing 183 matches in total and helping them to runners-up spot in the First Division in 1975-76. In the summer of 1979, 33-year-old Hollins transferred to Arsenal, where he remained for four years. In 1981 he was awarded the MBE for services to football. In 1983, Hollins returned to Chelsea where he helped the club get promoted to the First Division. He retired at the end of that season, having played 939 first-class matches in total.

Hollins was immediately appointed coach at Chelsea after his retirement; a year later he became first team-manager. In 1989 he left Chelsea and had spells at clubs QPR, Stockport County and Swansea City.
