Profile

Alan Mullery Summary

Alan Mullery MBE (born 23/11/1941, Notting Hill) is a former footballer who enjoyed a successful career with Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He later became a manager at several different clubs. Mullery made his Fulham debut aged 17 in 1958 and played over 200 games for the club. He then signed for Spurs in 1964 where he was a strong midfielder, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. In addition to this, he gained 35 England caps, including the historic 1970 World Cup quarter-final against West Germany in which he scored the opening goal. A final spell at Fulham featured an amazing cup run to Wembley. Mullery then became a manager, notably with Brighton and Hove Albion, where he achieved two promotions in a three season spell. Other clubs he went on to manage are Charlton, Crystal Palace, QPR and Brighton again. Mullery now works a successful TV pundit for Sky Sports and radio and he is also a match day host at White Hart Lane. He is also infamous for being the first ever England player to be sent off in an international match.
